This was a vulnerable time and the shattered glass represents the fragility of South Africa during the dismantling of apartheid. The civil unrest and the many shattered lives that went with it. Both black and white. The faces shown are Steven Biko, tortured and killed by the South African police. Molly Blackburn, a Black Sash activist and politician.
